This web-site has been built by students to explore the many ways in which people help, why they help and why they may choose not to help.

Students performed a study on helping behavior on two military bases in Southern California and on the campus of California State University San Marcos.

Student researchers wanted to find out if there was a diference in the amount of helping behavior they would observe on a Military Base as opposed to a college campus.

 What is Helping Behavior ?
 Why is it Important?

To engage in Helping Behavior is to give assistance or support in a situation that appears to be out of the ordinary.
It is important to know why people do or do not help because crisis situations can occur anywhere on any day.

Do you know what you would do?

To know more about what motivates people to help, can answer several questions:

How can I get help if I need it?
How do I know if someone really needs help?
What if others are already helping?
